§ 13-1. Assessment of court costs used for police training.

  • (a)

    The county court shall assess the sum of two dollars ($2.00) as a court cost against every person convicted for violation of an ordinance of the municipality, except an ordinance relating to the parking of vehicles. In addition, two dollars ($2.00) from every bond estreature or forfeited bail bond related to municipal ordinances shall be collected.

    (b)

    All court costs, bond estreatures and forfeited bail bonds assessed and collected pursuant to this section shall be utilized and appropriated only for law enforcement education expenditures for law enforcement officers of the municipality.

    (c)

    The county court shall assess two dollars ($2.00) as court costs against every person convicted of violation of a state penal or criminal statute or convicted for violation of a municipal or county ordinance as authorized by F.S. § 938.15. All such sums shall be turned over to the town clerk to be deposited in a fund to be known as the law enforcement education fund. There is hereby established in the town a fund to be known as the law enforcement education fund. All funds received by the town from the assessment of court costs established in this section shall be segregated from all other funds of the town and set apart by the town clerk. Such funds may, from time to time, in the discretion of the town commission, be invested. The interest received upon such funds and the principal thereof, may, upon the request of the chief of police of the town, be used for criminal justice education and training, including basic training expenditures, for the benefit of members of the police department. Expenditures shall be permitted by the town commission when authorized in accordance with law.
